Top drifter Shane Lynch revs up for IGNITION - Scotland's newest motoring show

The renowned petrol-head who first came to fame as a member of Boyzone is today a top competitor for Team Japspeed, one of the world’s premier outfits competing in the spectacular sideways motor sport discipline of drifting.

Team Japspeed – with Lynch at the wheel of his amazing, supercharged Nissan 370Z – will be providing festival goers with dramatic high-speed demonstrations throughout Scotland’s eagerly-anticipated three-day feast of engine-revving excitement. IGNITION will take over Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre on 5-7 August, with ticket prices to suit every pocket.

As well as hall after hall of cars and bikes old and new, highlights include a live action zone and display laps by iconic competition machinery around a specially constructed street circuit. On top of the Team Japspeed drifters, the stunning cars already confirmed include the F1 title winning Red Bull Racing RB7 Formula One car, which will be driven by Scotland’s own F1 hero David Coulthard.

Day entry tickets bought in advance start at just £28 while a family day ticket for two adults and up to three children costs just £65.  Children under 8 go free. Other discounts include special rates for group entry while a premium ticket (£49 in advance) will give access not just to the halls crammed with mouth-watering cars and bikes but also provides a grandstand seat for the outdoor track action and a showguide*.

Premium Plus tickets (£99 in advance) give access to the VIP preview evening (Friday 5 August) when holders will additionally be able to rub shoulders with drivers and celebrities for an evening of motor sport entertainment in the SECC’s Loch Suite.

The ultimate ticket gives membership to the VIP Ignite Club (£129 on Saturday and Sunday, £149 on Friday). On top of all the benefits of a Premium ticket, Ignite Club members will have their own exclusive bar, admittance to the Grandstand, access to driver talks plus the opportunity to see the other competition cars close up in the racing paddock.

IGNITION promises to be the most ambitious motoring event ever staged in Scotland. Presenting the best in motoring from the past, present and future as well as highlighting Scotland’s own contribution to motor sport, IGNITION is a dynamic celebration of high octane excitement. It is staged by the team behind the globally successful Top Gear Live events, the London Classic Car Show, Top Gear Festivals and the Chris Evans-inspired CarFest North and South family shows.

The Red Bull RB7 will be driven by David Coulthard on Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 August, while other stars ready to set the Tarmac on fire include rally legend Jimmy McRae. He will be demonstrating son Colin’s championship-winning Subaru Impreza and will also officially open the festival on Friday, 5 August.

Top Gear’s tame racer, The Stig, will be undertaking a series of power laps in some mouth-watering supercars while the world famous Top Gear Live Stunt Team are guaranteed to thrill the crowds with exciting performances.

“IGNITION is set to be the most exciting and ambitious motor show to have ever been staged in Scotland, and we are delighted to support the event in 2016,” confirmed Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events.

“Scotland’s motor sport enthusiasts are in for a real treat when the event comes to Glasgow in August, combining demonstrations of F1, rally, supercars and bikes on a specially-created Street Circuit with stunt shows and displays of iconic cars. For car lovers, it’s certainly not one to be missed.”

Advance tickets and full details of the Festival are available on the IGNITION website – www.ignitionfestival.co.uk – where you can also sign up to the event newsletter and be among the first to hear event news as it breaks.
