Green is the new black - Zero Waste Scotland encourages consumers to take a new approach to Black Friday

Zero Waste Scotland is calling on customers across the country to consider turning Black Friday on its head by going green and shopping Revolve, a re-use quality standard for shops who sell second hand goods in Scotland. Buying second hand from a Revolve certified store delivers the incredible savings Black Friday shoppers are looking for, but does so in a way that is kind to the planet and supports local social enterprises and good causes – perfect for the season of goodwill.

More than 100 stores across Scotland are now certified with the national Revolve standard – a quality kitemark that lets shoppers know they are buying high-quality goods from a reputable retailer and can expect an excellent customer experience.

Choice and quality is further boosted for shoppers with the three Revolve-accredited re-use and repair ‘superstores’ in Scotland:  Blythswood Care’s Highlands hub in Dingwall; the Edinburgh Remakery and the ReStyle Argyll e-hub.

That means there are over 100 certified Revolve stores and hubs that sell unique, pre-loved items such as children’s gifts, bikes white goods and furniture that won’t cost the earth, both financially and literally.

Iain Gulland, Chief Executive, Zero Waste Scotland, said: “Shopping re-use offers an easy, quality and sustainable alternative to Black Friday that could that could save shoppers a fortune as well as helping good causes and the environment, now and all year round.

“Zero Waste Scotland data shows that four out of five Scots would welcome a second-hand gift, so with Christmas fast approaching it’s an ideal opportunity to make a start on your Christmas list.

“Several stores within the Revolve network will be holding their own promotions on Friday, so you can still get that buzz of picking up a bargain with the added benefit of finding something unique.”

Tracy Murdoch, Managing Director at Revolve certified store Kidzeco said: “Revolve certification highlights the quality of our goods. Not only that, but by buying a re-used item our customers are extending the life of good quality items and saving all the materials and energy that would have gone into making a new one!

“By going green and getting your Black Friday buzz from a Revolve store you’re also helping to care for the environment.”

Revolve certification gives customers confidence that second-hand items are good quality, safe, and that certified retailers are reputable. For more information and to find your nearest Revolve store please visit www.revolvereuse.com
