The Stormyhill Stragglers have been named the winners of a challenge to walk, run or cycle as many miles as possible throughout the month of June, to raise funds for Skye Community Response.

A total of 112 teams signed up to take part in the challenge and collectively raised £23,566 for Skye Community Response. The Stormyhill Stragglers were crowned the winners of the challenge, covering an amazing 6827 miles in total. The family team from Portree was made up of Norman MacLeod, Donna Nicolson and their two children Dean and Hazel, and were awarded a £250 voucher for Portree Hotel donated by The Scottish Salmon Company.

The challenge was organised following the postponement of the annual Scottish Salmon Company Isle of Skye Half Marathon due to the coronavirus pandemic. Teams of four were asked to walk, run or cycle as many miles as they could over the month while maintaining social distancing.

Skye Community Response was set up to support the local community throughout the coronavirus pandemic. The response team coordinates various volunteers and groups in the wider Skye and Lochalsh area offering services such as food delivery, prescription collection, social services support and home support. The team take calls and emails from the public and direct them to the relevant information, organisations or volunteers that can assist them.

Davy Taylor, Head of Production North, at The Scottish Salmon Company said: “The Skye’s the limit challenge was great fun and really gave us all a focus throughout the whole of June to achieve our own goals and keep busy during a very unique time in all our lives. The weather for most of the month was kind and the scenery was fantastic. Seeing so many people of all ages taking part, with smiles on their faces as we passed each other walking or pedalling, was a sheer joy. Well done to the organising committee and everyone who supported, donated and took part.”
