The donation from The Scottish Salmon Company was used by the group to purchase new waterproofs for the pupils at Rhunahaorine Primary to be used during their Forest/Beach School sessions. During these weekly sessions, the school children spend time either on Tayinloan beach or in the forest behind the school where they learn vital outdoor skills, such as making fires, creating shelters and cooking outdoors.

Rhunahaorine Primary School Parents, nominated for the Community Fund by Emma Byers, Production & Sales Planner at SSC, is a group whose main aim is to raise money for the local primary school, which is made up of around 15 pupils from eight families.

Part of SSC’s Community Charter, the Fund was established in 2017, whereby SSC staff are encouraged to be champions in their communities by nominating local groups, charities and organisations that support health and wellbeing for a funding grant of up to £250.

Stephanie O’Hanlon, member of the Rhunahaorine Primary School Parents group, said: “Rhunahaorine Primary is a very small school, which can make fundraising tricky at times, so the support from The Scottish Salmon Company in purchasing some new waterproofs for the children is greatly appreciated.

“The Forest/Beach School programme helps encourage the children to build a life-long appreciation of the outdoors and a healthy lifestyle through outdoor learning, something that we as parents want to support in any way we can!

“Waterproofs are a year-round necessity here, and I know the pupils will be happy to be able to stay dry while enjoying their education outside the classroom.”
