Perth College UHI welcomes return of Open Days for prospective students
Perth College UHI has announced the return of its popular Open Days, allowing prospective students to come on campus and meet staff face-to-face.
Last year, COVID-19 restrictions meant that only online information events could take place.
However, following the First Minister’s announcement last week (3 August), the Crieff Road facility has updated its preparations, ahead of students returning at the beginning of September.
Three Open Days, in accordance with the latest Scottish Government COVID-19 guidelines, will take place on Saturday August 14, 21 and 28 (12-4pm) at the Webster Building, with staff on hand to answer queries about course information and funding and provide career advice.
Perth College UHI has invested heavily over the past few years in new facilities, including an on-site nursery. It also boasts its own Academy of Sport and Wellbeing, complete with climbing centre, a fully equipped gym and sports therapy clinic.
There are also extensive facilities for anyone interested in a professional career in music or theatre, with multiple recording studios and rehearsal rooms.
Perth College UHI is also one of the leading facilities in the UK for training the next generation of aircraft engineers.
There are places still available on a range of courses, on everything from criminology to hospitality, computing, acting and theatre and engineering.
Lorenz Cairns, Depute Principal of Perth College UHI said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming students back in September in a safe learning environment.
“Bringing back our popular Open Days gives prospective students and their families a wonderful opportunity to get a taster of what the next chapter of student life is like at Perth College UHI.
“We will have staff on hand to answer questions about what is on offer and showcase the latest facilities on campus on August 21 and 28, in accordance with the latest Scottish Government COVID-19 guidelines.
“We are very much open for business, and anyone interested in one of our more practical courses can once again look forward to having access to a wide range of modern facilities. There are still a few places on a number of course, so why not get along to see what is on offer.”
Perth College UHI works closely with all Senior Secondary schools in Perth and Kinross to offer a wide range of areas of study from entry level to post graduate.
The School College Partnership allows pupils a greater choice in a variety of subject areas and by studying at college, it makes the transition easier from school to further learning or employment.
Over the last 5 years, between 400 and 500 pupils annually have attended courses at Perth College UHI.
Student Rebeka Campbell, 22, who is studying sport and fitness, said: “My advice would be, go for it. I never thought I would make it to university, as my grades at school weren’t the best, but my hard work and determination were enough for me. Go with your heart and find a course you will truly enjoy and learn from. And most of all - have fun and speak to as many people as you can - and get involved with everything.”
