National Unicorn Day is the mane event thanks to Lees

The ‘mane’ event took place at Kelvingrove Park, where the creator of Scotland’s favourite treats and sweets surprised locals by bringing along one of the mythical creatures to mark the day and introduce the brand’s new look pastel coloured Macaringues.

Getting into the spirit of things, Lees have created their very own rainbow coloured headpiece, fully embracing the unicorn-inspired beauty trend that has swept the nation. Commissioned from Silver Linings Millinery, the Macaringues took centre stage alongside Shimmer, the unicorn.

With both spring and wedding season now in full swing, and the nation’s love of unicorns seen on everything from cakes to clothes, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. An almond flavoured meringue shell, the Lees Macaringue comes in three different colours, pink, lilac and green, making them the perfect addition to an afternoon tea, a special occasion, or some unicorn inspired recipes. Their natural pastel colours have already proved popular with brides-to-be.

Commenting on the new product, Sheevaun Thomas NPD Manager at Lees of Scotland said: “We’ve seen so many people using our Macaringues in unicorn inspired recipes, so what better way to celebrate Scotland’s national animal on its very own day.

“Our inspiration for the Macaringues has come from the macarons which Paris is famous for but with a little Scottish twist: they are completely different to anything we have previously developed before here at Lees. We’ve worked hard to develop the recipe, and have created a really versatile product that can be used for all occasions.”

Sold in retail packs of 30, Lees Macaringues are both gluten and nut free, and are available in most major retailers now.
